/^\(?:\d{3}-\)?\d{3}-\d{4}$/ : Deciphering Regular Expressions

Regular expressions are quickly becoming a critical tool in the technology industry for the manipulation of textual data. Whether it is XML Schema, XPath, or from within Java code, regular expressions provide a powerful and convenient method for the validation, substitution, and querying of data.

Deciphering Regular Expressions looks at the weird combinations of symbols, text, and numbers and how they are used to recognize patterns within data for sophisticated matching and substitution. Deciphering Regular expressions will focus on the use of regular expressions within XPath, XML Schema and Java including the use of regular expressions in JDK 1.4, and the Oro expression matcher. Numerous regular expressions examples will be given.
