John Soyring is vice
president and the senior executive for the IBM Software Services & Support
business unit. The Software Services business unit is a global IBM business.
Its mission is to develop and deliver fee-based professional services for sale
to IBM Software's customers and business partners. These services assist
companies to design, develop and deploy e-business solutions using IBM's set of
middleware software products, such as the WebSphere family of products. The
Software Services team works cooperatively with IBM Global Services and other
global systems integrators. The IBM Software Support mission is to provide
global leadership and coordination to the large number of IBM organizations
which today provide various forms of technical support to customers and
business partners. This includes marketing technical support (such as technical
support web sites), pre-sales technical support, critical situation project
offices, product warranty support, professional services, and business partner
technical support.
John joined IBM during 1976 after being
graduated with a bachelors of science degree in electrical engineering from
Michigan Technological University. He later completed graduate studies in the
fields of computer science, electrical engineering and business administration
at the University of Minnesota and State University of New York.
During his career with IBM he has held a
variety of technical professional, managerial and executive positions within
the company, including: heading IBM's programming centers in Charlotte, North
Carolina (for retail banking software) and Austin, Texas (for personal computer
software); leading the worldwide OEM sales business for personal computer
software; leading the worldwide strategic relations business for personal
software; leading the worldwide professional services business for network
computing software; and most recently he was vice president of IBM worldwide
e-business operating systems solutions.
During the fall of 1998, John was one of twelve
expert witnesses selected by the US Justice Department to testify in the United
States vs. Microsoft anti-trust
