Implementing Design Patterns in Distributed Java Systems

Many of us are familiar with the design patterns related to J2EE and J2SE applications, but not all systems fit within those paradigms. Distributed object architectures often are home grown, or include services and components developed using CORBA, Jini, or similar technologies. This session will focus on the design patterns used in such systems. There will be a thorough examination of the implementation of these patterns through running and reviewing the code examples. All sample source code will be provided on the conference CD.

Managing Java Applications with the Java Management Extensions (JMX)

JMX is a specification that has been developed to provide a standard for managing Java based resources. This session will include an overview of JMX, and demonstrate how to instrument a Java application with Sun's JMX Reference Implementation. Particular focus will be given to a sample system that demonstrates an end-to-end implementation of the JMX Distributed Services level. This system will include managed resources, as well as a management console for monitoring and controlling the resource. All sample source code will be provided on the conference CD.
