Struts

The Struts project is an Open Source MVC framework that provides the infrastructure upon which full-powered web applications can be built. Struts is part of the Apache Jakarta project, and has quickly become a popular choice for web-tier development. In this session, we will explore the concepts and architecture behind Struts, and through examples, we will explore best practices and other techniques that will enable developers to quickly make use of Struts.

J2EE Patterns

Sun released a catalog of core J2EE patterns that represent proven best practices and design strategies for using the key J2EE technologies such as JSP, Servlets, EJB, and JMS APIs. The catalog details 15 patterns and numerous strategies for the presentation, business, and data tiers of J2EE architecture. In this session, we will examine a number of J2EE best practices and common bad practices. We will explore the patterns catalog including a number of example pattern implementations, and discuss refactorings that can improve an existing J2EE architecture.
