Bryan Basham – Sun Microsystems, Inc.

Web Application Development, a Case Study

In this presentation, Bryan will show the architecture, design, and a few implementation details of a medium-sized Web application that he created for a non-profit sports league. This application has a Web application component as well as a standalone/GUI component. Bryan will show the use of several design patterns that are easy to implement and do not require an EJB server.

The Mysteries of JDBC Middleware

JDBC middleware can be complex and mysterious. As a developer, what you need to know includes not only the structure of the JDBC and JTA APIs, but also the strategies that implement these interfaces. Bryan will show how to use Connection Pools, Data Sources, distributed transactions, and how these are implemented. The Tyrex open-source middleware will be the source of our implementation discussion.
